New Years Resolutions: Coworking Edition
Oh, New Year’s Resolutions!
We start the year with hope and optimism, and by February, many of us have forgotten about our resolutions or just can’t quite build the habit like we hoped. So we give up, feel discouraged or stay stuck in habits that breed stress and imbalance in work and life.
For those of you who work from home, own your own business, work overtime or bring work home, a healthy work/life balance might seem like a distant dream. But it doesn’t have to be!
In the new year, will you join the Cornerstone Coworking community as we encourage one another to pursue big career goals and deeply enjoy our time off?
Here are some ideas to improve your time when you work and play:
- Maximize your daily productivity during working hours so work can stay at work.
Whether you’re working from home, coworking in our common space or knocking out your task list in one of our private conference rooms, you might be struggling to stay on top of your to-dos during working hours.
Over the next few weeks, consider one of these tools to help you improve your efficiency and prioritize your time:
Try a “deep work” hour every day.
This can look like blocking out one or two hours every day where you turn off notifications and enjoy focused, uninterrupted work. Depending on your schedule’s flexibility, you can even block the same time slot every day so your team and your body know when it’s time to grind.
- Clear your inbox by the end of your workday on Friday.
Some weeks, you may not be able to completely clear your inbox, but it’s helpful to set a goal to either plan a time to address every task or address it before the weekend. That way, you can leave email anxiety at the office and enjoy your weekend off.
- Connect with your coworking community, both for professional growth and needed camaraderie.
Whether you’re new to Cornerstone Coworking or are an old coworking pro, we recommend a resolution to develop new professional relationships or continue growing the ones you have.
One easy thing to work into your scheduling is attending one event per month, whether it’s an event here at Cornerstone Coworking or another networking event in the Lawrenceville area. We’re confident that showing up to these events will not only give you a brain break from work but also help you make crucial connections and support other local initiatives!
- Reclaim your work/life balance.
Your hobbies and free time are often lost in endless work tasks, especially if you run a small business or nonprofit. A few small resolutions can help you revolutionize your time outside of work.
- Enjoy your lunch break.
During a busy work day, it’s easy to unwrap a sandwich at your desk and work through lunch only to feel the mid-afternoon burnout a few hours later.
This year, choose to take 20, 30 or even 60 minutes when you can away from your desk to eat, walk through downtown Lawrenceville and chat with other coworkers. This short break will help you refuel and recharge for the rest of the workday.
- Choose active rest when you’re off the clock.
We think that scrolling social media or binging a favorite show is rest, and sometimes it is! But in the long run, this passive rest often doesn’t help us feel refreshed.
After long days on your phone and laptop, choose a few evenings each week to exercise, read a book or enjoy your favorite hobby. Your mind and your body will thank you!
