Remote Work 101: Managing Time + Tasks

Remote work isn’t for the faint of heart. It involves balancing the comfort of home with the challenges of avoiding distractions like honey-do lists and household chores. Similarly, working from a coffee shop or coworking space comes with its own set of hurdles. Managing your time and tasks while working remotely can be daunting. To help you navigate these challenges, we’ve compiled some of our favorite tips and tricks for your remote workdays!

Schedule It Out

Your calendar is your best ally. Our pastor often says you can gauge someone’s priorities by looking at where they spend their money and what’s on their calendar. Make sure to block off time for work, lunch breaks, walks, and even small tasks like switching over laundry (if you’re working from home!). Keeping a structured schedule helps you stay focused and organized.

Balance Your To-Do List

If you’re like me, you probably have a running list of tasks in your head that seems endless. Take a moment to write it down on a sticky note (we always keep a stash at our desk!) and organize them by priority or time required. To avoid burnout, mix up your tasks—pair a tedious one with a more enjoyable task, and don’t forget to schedule in breaks. Tackling tasks in a balanced order can help you stay motivated and productive.

Give Yourself Grace

Remember, you’re not a machine. While you have job responsibilities, it’s important to acknowledge that you’re human. If you need an hour to regroup, take it. Returning to your tasks with a refreshed and focused mindset can make all the difference in your productivity.

Adapting to remote work can be challenging, but mastering task management is crucial for both your work and home life. As we continue to shift towards more remote work environments, these skills will become increasingly valuable.
